As you walk towards the rather nondescript pub you get no hint of the spooky surprise awaiting you when you cross the threshold…unless of course, you happen to glimpse the half-buried skeleton digging its way out of the earth in the nearby flower bed.
But open the door to the 180-year-old pub and you’re greeted by a life-size corpse bride and groom, rictus grins stretched across their skulls, screeching with metallic laughter.
And that’s just the porch - step inside the appropriately called Hanging Gate pub and you enter into a fantastic Halloween-themed house of horrors.
And each room in the pub and restaurant, set on the edge of the Peak District, has a different scary style.
There’s the ‘killer clown’ bar, with close to 20 of the white-faced, orange-haired creatures hanging from the rafters, tucked away in corners, and peering from the walls. It’s the stuff of nightmares for anyone suffering from coulrophobia!
