Hannah Lancashire measuring-up Chester.
Everyone loves dressing up for a wedding and now it seems even our pooches are getting in on the glamour action.
Made to measure, and from the same material as the bridegroom's attire, could matching dogs' waistcoats and suits this be this year's biggest wedding trend?
Of course, dressing up our four-legged friends is nothing new, there are plenty of options for dog coats, fancy dress and even pyjamas, but an enterprising business owner from Derby claims to have spotted a gap in the market for bespoke canine wedding suits.
It was the brainwave of 34-year-old Hannah Lancashire, owner of Jon Paul Formal Hire, who was looking for a quirky way to attract people to her stand at a wedding fair.
She said she came up with the idea to dress a toy dog in a shirt, waistcoat and jacket, in the hope that potential clients would find it amusing and stop to find out more.
“In the end,” she said, “we had more than 200 enquiries from that fair alone, from people wanting to include their dog in the wedding party.
“So we looked into the idea, and joined forces with Albert and Belle in Swadlincote, who specialise in making dog coats, to create a whole wedding package.
"And all the dog suits are hand-made, to the pooch’s exact measurements and in the same material as the groom’s suit and waistcoat, so the whole wedding party is coordinated and keeps to the same colour theme."
It might seem like a barking mad idea, but Brits have a reputation for being a nation of dog-lovers, so why should our beloved mutts, who are often a huge part of family life, miss out on such a special occasion?
