Tucked away in a hidden walled garden of an inner-city public park, the UK’s largest hydrangea collection is putting on its best display ever, following the sudden heatwave after several months of rain.
.And what used to be a flower traditionally associated with “granny’s cottage garden” is blooming back into fashion thanks to the rising trend for all things shabby chic and retro-styled.
There are more than 600 individual hydrangea bushes with a dozen or so different varieties, planted in Derby’s Darley Abbey park, formerly part of an estate belonging to the nearby cotton mills.
