You’d be forgiven for thinking that after more than 50 years running a garden nursery, 67-year-old John Massey would be enjoying the peace and tranquillity of retirement.<br />
<br />
But not a bit of it, if anything this keen plantsman is now busier than ever, caring for his own three-acre garden, a beautiful ‘all seasons’ oasis set in the heart of industrial Birmingham.<br />

With its informal borders, island beds, woodland dells and wildlife meadow, the garden is a riot of colour still, despite the colder evenings and fading daylight hours, showing off an abundance of rare plants as well as many familiar favourites including cyclamen and colchicums, malus trees laden with crab apples and the fiery hues of liquidambar, euonymus and Japanese acers.<br />
