Today (Tuesday), the annual game of Shrovetide football is played out across the Derbyshire town of Ashbourne between the Up’ards and Down’ards. The two day event is held every Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday, attracting over 2000 visitors to the game, that is alleged to have been started in the 11th Century under the reign of William the Conquerer.
